Chelmsford City Council publishes nine city and seventeen parish conservation areas with maps or appraisals, including Chelmsford Central, Moulsham Street, New London Road, West End, Springfield Green, Great Baddow, Broomfield, Writtle, Danbury, Stock and Boreham.

The council explains what changes inside a conservation area and how to check your property. Conservation status does not automatically rule out rooftop solar. Ask the installer to identify the permission route for the actual layout and check listed status, planning conditions and any Article 4 direction with the council. Wall-mounted equipment has different restrictions from equipment on a pitched roof.
